Welcome to another year at TASSO, firstly I would like to welcome our new committee member Eloise (South), Ben (North) and Chris (North-West), it’s fantastic to get parents who are engaged with their local schools, we also welcome back Lindie to our committee. Saturday the 26th August was our Annual Conference and AGM where we saw the changing of the guard, we said goodbye to Ant Dry who had the top job for the past two years and I have now officially taken on the role of President. Congratulations to our conference subcommittee who did a wonderful job putting it all together. Steve Biddulph was our keynote speaker a very entertaining and informative session, highly recommend attending his workshops. We had a range of motions presented which will be covered further in this newsletter. We have one more round of Community Empowered School workshops which will be taking place later this month in Hobart and Launceston. We have held the first round of forums in each region on the implementation of the new Education Act, Regulation, Instructions and new constitution. TASSO are looking at holding further forums in each region so please keep an eye for those dates. With the committee I am looking forward to working on a variety of strategies on bettering communication and raising our profile. We’ll continue our support for parent engagement and consultation in public education, by working closely with the DoE and other stakeholders. Please remember we are only a phone call away for advice or help with any other issues that may be happening.
